If you’re a fan of handmade Mexican comfort food, then La Carreta Mexican Restaurant is a must-stop on your Sevierville itinerary. This eatery has the perfect homespun vibes, with cushy seats, a colorful atmosphere, and bubbling dishes of cheese, beans, and salsa. With something to please everyone, you’re sure to find yourself at home.
You know a restaurant is good when it’s located in a busy tourist area and the locals go there regularly, and that’s exactly the story of La Carreta. Its staff has low turnover, its food comes out quickly, the music and vibes are just right, and its menu is delightfully extensive. What more could you want in a Tex-Mex establishment located on a busy thoroughfare in Vacationville, USA?
One of our favorite things about La Carreta Mexican Restaurant is that it delivers the classics, but the menu is still creative. If you, like us, love perusing a long list of food items and picking just the right thing, then you’ll enjoy yourself hugely here. On the other hand, if you know what you like and just want that, you’re pretty much guaranteed to find it. From enchiladas to quesadillas, and Shirley temples to a variety of cocktails, this Mexican restaurant is a crowd-pleaser for kids aged 1 to 92. (Yes, that’s a Christmas song, but this is true even when it’s not Christmas.)
The restaurant’s website lists its hours as 11 AM to 10 PM from Monday through Saturday, and 11 AM to 9 PM Sunday. If you’re thinking of heading in late, though, always make sure to call and check that you have the hours right, and do your holiday hours due diligence as well.
A few of our menu favorites at La Carreta Mexican Restaurant include the following:
Quesadillas
Nothing is more classic than a cheese-filled tortilla, and La Carreta does this one right. You can get yours plain or filled with chicken or shrimp. These are excellent if you load them up with guacamole, sour cream, and extra salsa! Ask your server which toppings it comes with and which you should order on the side.
Mojarra
Looking for a lighter dish? Try the mojarra, which is fried tilapia served with Spanish rice, salad, tortillas, and that standby favorite, pico de gallo.
Pollo a la Carreta
Love to try dishes you won’t find at every Mexican restaurant? We recommend Pollo a la Carreta, a unique dish of breaded chicken served with rice, beans, and melted cheese.
Churros
Is there any dessert more authentic than a churro? The answer is no, and La Carreta upholds the tradition with a truly excellent version. Enjoy the ice cream that comes with it, and plan ahead by ordering twice as much as you think you need!
Chocolate Burrito
It’s just what it sounds like, folks: a burrito filled with chocolate. That’s one tortilla, loaded with a melted chocolate bar, drowned in chocolate syrup and whipped cream, with two scoops of vanilla ice cream to boot. If you’ve got kids (or kids at heart), this is a winner.
