Sevierville, Tennessee is well known for its beautiful landscapes thanks to its lying just north of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Many people head out this way to enjoy that fresh mountain air — and one can do that in more ways than just a hike down some popular pathways. Golfing, in fact, is a popular pastime here thanks to the city’s beautiful backdrops of forested mountains and rolling hills. There are over a dozen excellent golf courses in Sevierville, and all of them take advantage of the beautiful scenery and all offer a great round of golf.
Of course, some golf clubs and golf courses in Sevierville are more popular than others. The following is a look at three of the best golfing location you’ll find in this mountain town:
1. Sevierville Golf Club
Sevierville Golf Club is located just north of the city’s downtown area, with its eastern edge running along the West Prong Little Pigeon River. Its entrance and parking lot lie just off Old Knoxville Highway, and the club shares that lot with the Club Wyndham Great Smokies Lodge.
The Sevierville Golf Club features two 18-hole golf courses, a new 9-hole course, a driving range, a chipping area, a putting green, a pro shop, and an onsite restaurant open for lunch and early dinners. Suffice to say you could spend several days here, enjoying different amenities and entrees each time. Of course, the two 18-hole courses are this location’s biggest draw.
Of this Sevierville golf course’s championship holes, the River course is a par 72 that features holes along the West Prong Little Pigeon River while the Highlights course is a par 70 course that is set within the property’s rolling hills further west of the river. The Sevierville Golf Club takes landscaping very seriously and golfers will enjoy gorgeous green fairways with manicured trees that won’t come into play but will offer a beautiful overall aesthetic. The River course is considered the more challenging course of the two.
For those visiting the area, you can rent golf clubs if desired and golf carts come included with the booked tee time rate. Discounted rates are available for twilight tee times, senior citizens, active duty servicemen and women, and on replays when done on the same day. The onsite restaurant of Mulligan’s Restaurant offers sandwiches, salads, and similar light fare from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day.
2. Island Pointe Golf Club
The Island Pointe Golf Club is located just northwest of Sevierville, just off Kodiak Road and along the French Broad River. In fact, this beautiful 175-acre golf club features holes on either side of the river and in between, with three holes set across the Cain Islands in the middle of the French Broad River (hence the golf club’s name).
There is only one 18-hole course at the Island Pointe Golf Club, but it is a course that offers quite the experience. This par 72 course is often cited as the, “most challenging public golf course in East Tennessee”. This label is thanks to several interesting par 3s that will have the golfing veteran as well as the rookie on their toes. Such makes the Island Point Golf Club a great choice for newcomers looking for a thrilling game within a beautiful landscape.
And if that weren’t enough, Island Point Golf Club also has a reputation for affordability, having several times made Golf Digest’s list of Best Places to Play for $50 or Less. Here, you can enjoy an engaging round of 18-hole golf for just $40 per person. They do require each player to have their own set of clubs. The nine holes at Creekside Golf Course were designed as a walking course, and it is quite a beautiful walk! The team behind this golf club designed the course with parkland routing and tree-lined Bermuda fairways. It really makes the most of the beautiful landscapes. As you and your golfing partners play here, you’ll enjoy meandering through clusters of mature hardwoods and along beautiful water features and marshlands. Local wildlife frequently makes an appearance here. In fact, you’ll find eight ponds featured across the course’s nine holes, making for plenty of beautiful (and challenging) water backdrops.
