Welcome to Dick’s Last Resort, a restaurant that’s known for it’s outlandish, sarcastic, and high-energy staff that serve your meal with a large dose of sarcasm. If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind dining experience that’s entertaining and full of laughs (often at your expense), this is the place to be.
The Gatlinburg location opened in 2011 and lies at traffic light #8. Dick’s serves typical American bar fare including wings, nachos, ribs, burgers, steaks, and seafood. Overall, prices seem comparable to other similar eateries in the area. Appetizers run between $7 and $11 for most, and the largest sampler platter that feeds up to six people is $20. Most lunch plates are under $12, and dinner plates average around $18. The priciest kids meal costs $6.
Since the wait staff provides the entertainment, there are no live bands or Karaoke here. Cocktail options include signature drinks like specialty margaritas and frozen beverages. During Dick’s “crappy” hour which occurs Monday through Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., you’ll enjoy cheap drinks including domestic bottles and pints, house margaritas and liquors, and select appetizers for $5.
If you want some greasy, bar food served with contempt, Dick’s Last Resort is the place to go. Popular menu items include:
Dick’s Sampla Platta
A heaping plate of cheese sticks, buffalo wings, chicken tenders, and fried pickle chips.
Crabby Balls
10 noteworthy-sized meat balls made of crab meat and fried to perfection.
Oink & Moo Burger
A large patty topped with slow-roasted pulled pork, pepper jack, coleslaw, and Dick’s golden sauce.
Firecracker Salmon
Filet marinated in Asian flavors and topped with wasabi cream sauce served with rice and vegetables.
BBQ Combo
Large helping of barbecued and smoked meats including a quarter chicken, Dick’s famous pork ribs, and pulled pork. Served with coleslaw and fries.
Shrimp-a-Palooza
Four of each – fried, grilled, and peel-and-eat shrimp served with rice a vegetable.
The food at Dick’s isn’t the real reason you come; you come for the experience. That being said, the food is average bar food. You don’t wait too long and it comes out hot.
Dick’s offers an array of cocktails created by spunky bartenders that eagerly deliver ridicule. Notable drinks include the blackberry “rita” with blackberry moonshine and the BJ Shot, a shot of Irish cream complete with whipped cream. Don’t order a trashcan punch with its rum, grain alcohol, and fruit punch mixture if you plan on driving.
Atmosphere and service go hand in hand at Dick’s. If you’re easily offended this isn’t the place for you. The wait staff are supposed to treat you with contempt and insult you! Servers create paper hats for each guests with an insult on it and sometimes shower guests with napkins. The staff are trained to keep banter at an age appropriate level if you bring your kids. All the bickering and mockery are in good fun and meant to add to the “ambiance” of Dick’s.
The restaurant is a bit loud and has bright, crowded decor. There are many cutouts of “Dick” around the place for photo opps. Wait staff will take pictures with you and love selfies!
If you’re not afraid of public humiliation and a good hammering, then yes! Many visitors find the experience a raucous good time. We found that the wait staff really enjoyed their jobs and the role they’re playing. The food isn’t top-of-the-line, but it is good and there are plenty of options. Add in some tasty cocktails for a hilarious dining experience. Again, if you’re easily offended, this might not be the best place to go!
