Fall is almost here and what better way to kick off the season than the Sevier County Fair? This much-anticipated event opens on August 30th and runs through September 5th, giving you a full week to enjoy all the awesome activities on tap. Each day will have new entertainment acts, music performances, and much more to see. Plus, you can enjoy all the traditional fair activities and food to enjoy the full experience. Here are some of the things you have to look forward to this year.
See Fun and Exciting Entertainment Acts Onstage Each and Every Day
Each day on the many stages across the fairgrounds, you can catch shows by talented musicians and entertainers.
Throughout the week, you might see:
- Atomic Wing Eating Contest
- Nick the Magician
- Lawnmower Derby
- Mullet Contest
- Boy Scout Dutch Oven Cookoff
At the arena, you can catch a full rodeo with riders challenging each other to a variety of fun games. Both bronco and bull riders will make their appearance, so come on by to cheer on your favorites.
Sign Up to Participate in the Look-A-Like Lip Sync Contest and Many More
In between all the music and entertainment acts, the stages will host contests for everyone to participate in. You can even sign up if you want to see how you fare against the other contenders.
Contests currently on the books for this year include:
- Tractor Tire Eating Contest
- Fairest of the Fair beauty pageant
- Skillet toss
- Eating contests
- AG Olympics
- Dog fashion show
and many many more!
Of course, it wouldn’t be a county fair without bringing livestock into the spotlight. So, don’t miss the cattle and goat shows held all week at the cattle tent.
Catch Variety Shows Between the Exhibit Hall and Mainstreet Market
World-renowned Rudy Uresti will attend all seven days of the fair this year to show off his talents to the crowds. His Variety Show will be located right by the Exhibit Hall, stopping to present to each audience he finds. He promises to stop for multiple shows each night to give everyone a chance to experience the magic of the circus and beyond. You won’t want to miss it, so keep your eyes peeled for his telltale cotton lasso and ears perked for his fun stories.
Check Out the Exhibit Hall to See Plants, Animals, and Crafts Galore
There is definitely no shortage of extraordinary things to see in the exhibit hall. From garden crops and baked goods to crafts and LEGO builds, there is something for everyone on display this year.
You can even submit up to 75 of your own items to the floral department for display, such as:
- Houseplants
- Native plants
- Cut flowers
- Succulents
They are also accepting submissions for many of their other categories, including LEGO builds, photography, and food preservation.
If you bring in more than five items, you will receive a free admissions ticket for any day of your choice. Just make sure your submissions abide by all the rules, so you can hopefully win big. Although it is free to submit your items, they are giving away cash and ribbons to the winners.
Before you leave, look for the “Pioneer/Century Farms” and “Fairs Gone Bye” walls to see if you can spot your face in the crowd. If you are a Sevier County Fair regular, you are likely to show up there, quite possibly more than once.
Exhilarate Your Senses by Hopping on All the Amazing Rides
Every fair needs rides — and the Sevier County Fair is no exception. At every corner of the fairgrounds, they will have all your favorite rides up and running, giving you a chance to get your heart pumping and make amazing memories. Though this year there will be no rides operating on opening day, August 30th.
For the most exhilarating experience, you might want to zoom across the sky in the pirate ship, ride in circles on the magic carpet, and even travel upside down in a ring of fire. If you prefer something a little bit tamer, you can take a ride on the carousel, zip down the super slides, and ride the mechanical bull.
Whatever you do, don’t miss your chance to ride the Ferris wheel during the day to get a stunning view of the entire fair. Then, ride it again after dark for a whole new perspective on the fun.
To avoid running out of tickets, purchase the wristband for unlimited rides all night long.
Stuff Yourself Full of Extraordinary Fair Food Served by the Boatload
If nothing else suits your fancy, then simply let the delightful fair food lead the way. All across the fairgrounds, you will find booth after booth serving up sweet and savory treats of all kinds. You can start the day with an elephant ear smothered in cinnamon sugar or jam. Or go straight for a scone (or five!) in all your favorite flavors.
Later on, you might favor:
- Corn dogs
- Chicken strips
- Steak sandwiches
- Tacos
- Roasted corn
- Cheese fries
Cotton candy, caramel corn, and many other sweet treats round out the offerings, keeping you filled to the top as you travel around the fairgrounds.
To wet your whistle, don’t forget the iced tea and fresh-squeezed lemonade by the gallon. And if that doesn’t do it for you, then go for a strawberry-banana smoothie instead. You can even find espresso drinks galore that promise to fire you up for even more fun at the fair.
With so much to see and do at the Sevier County Fair, you will want to go on opening day and come back as many times as possible this fall run. By coming early in the week, you will enjoy lower admission prices and increase your chances of trying every last tidbit of delicious food served up here. So, make sure to put the fair on your calendar and bring along plenty of money for treats, souvenirs, and much more.
