Although J.T. Hannah’s Kitchen bills itself as a restaurant that specializes in steaks and seafood, we recommend steering clear of the fine food and sticking to the burgers, sandwiches, and fried foods. This is a delicious restaurant that is definitely worthy of a visit.
The History
The restaurant is named after J.T. Hannah who operated the largest freight warehouse and stockyards in East Tennessee in the early 1900s. J.T. had an exclusive contract to distribute the finest seafood, livestock, whiskey, and other supplies to the entire area. As was customary, he opened a kitchen and bunkhouse to serve the needs of his out-of-town workers that commuted in each week. Eventually, the lunchroom became famous and non-workers wanted to frequent it. In the 1930s, the warehouse and stockyard closed down, but the restaurant opened its doors to the general public.
