Appalachian Ski Mountain (ASM) started small but has snowballed into North Carolina’s premier ski destination. Grady Moretz and four partners purchased what was known as Blowing Rock Ski Lodge. The ski resort had a 12,000-foot lodge, three slopes, and used ropes and T-bars to shuttle skiers to the peaks.
But Moretz and his team had a bigger vision that would take years to accomplish. In 1969, they replaced the rope tow with a chairlift. The T-bar was scrapped in 72 for another chairlift, and the lodge was renovated.
Appalachian Ski Mountain also worked on improving its brand image. During the 70s, they brought celebrities like famed alpine skier Jean Claude Killy and astronaut Charles Duke to the slopes. Appalachian Ski Mountain offers:

The lodge has evolved into 46,000 square feet, complete with:

The French Swiss Ski College (affiliated with Central Piedmont Community College) has instructors that work with beginners. Teachers incorporate the best techniques from the French and Swiss to give beginners a thorough, safe, and efficient ski method.
ASM is close to Blowing Rock, North Carolina, a popular tourist destination. Although ASM has everything you want during your visit, Blowing Rock offers over 100 casual or fine dining restaurants.
During a few select weeks in late December, ASM offers Midnight Blast Nights. Picture yourself swooping down well-lit slopes after midnight and warming yourself by the lodge’s fire.
While there are other ski resorts with some longer runs in the area, many visitors prefer ASM because it’s less crowded. Small crowds mean shorter wait times on the lifts. Skiers also report that the vibe is more relaxed at ASM and that check-in is a breeze.
