Our story begins five decades ago at a motel in Sanford, North Carolina. The motel owner liked chargrilling steaks for his family near the lobby. When visiting sales clerks smelled the meat, they asked if they could use the grill for cooking steaks. Demand increased, and the owner opted to cook for the men and include a tossed salad. Who knew that grilling steaks for his family would spark the creation of The Peddler Steak House?
The first restaurant opened in Southern Pines. The owner amended the menu only to serve ribeye steaks and included a salad bar. Today, many of those early traditions continue at The Peddler Steak House.
In February of 2022, the dining room at the Boone location was renovated to provide diners with a comfortable yet elegant setting. But when selecting meats, the high standards at The Peddlers Steak House remain intact.
The Peddler Steak House uses heavy western beef that’s appropriately aged. Such attention to detail ensures that each steak is tender and the texture is outstanding. The restaurant only uses natural seasonings and cooks all steaks over Tennessee hickory charcoal. The result is a melt-in-your-mouth steak, making The Peddler Steak House “The place for steak.”
While the days of the salad bar are gone, The Peddler Steak House has over 40 items to create your perfect salad. Salads are made-to-order in the kitchen, and you may have as many refills as you like.
When dining at The Peddler Steak House, consider having an appetizer like:
- Grilled shrimp skewer
- Jumbo shrimp cocktail
- Maryland-style crab cake
- Fried mushrooms
- Fried mozzarella
- Onion rings
Let’s explore their entrees. All meals include one side item of either a baked potato, baked sweet potato, french fries, rice pilaf, steamed vegetables, or twice-baked stuffed potato. Entrees also include custom salad and rolls.
Let’s explore the entrees at The Peddler Steak House!
Peddler Ribeye
The ribeye is their specialty and is their flagship steak. Your ribeye is cut to order at your table and then grilled to your preference. You may select either a 10 or 12 oz steak.
Prime Rib
The ribeye loin is seasoned with pepper, garlic, and salt and slow-roasted in the oven all day. You may choose either the 10 or the 12-ounce cut.
Filet Mignon
You can’t go wrong with the filet mignon if you prefer a lean steak. The filet mignon is also one of the most tender steaks. The filet mignon comes in a 7 or 10-ounce cut.
NY Strip
The NY has a “strip” of fat along the edge, making it less fatty than a ribeye. The NY Strip is rich in flavor and tender. Guests may select either the 10 or 12-ounce size.
If you want to “take it up a notch” as their menu notes, you can add some of these for an additional cost:
- Steak toppers (sauteed mushrooms or onion rings)
- Sauteed onions
- Grilled shrimp
- Blue cheese butter
The Peddler Steakhouse also has non-steak entrees. Here are a few examples:
- Shrimp dinner
- Grilled Atlantic salmon
- Marinated chicken
- Lobster dinner
If you’re hankering for a great steak or need a restaurant for a rehearsal dinner or special occasion, you can’t go wrong at The Peddler Steak House.
