You won’t find much humbler beginnings than those of Appalachia Cookie Company. Located in Boone, NC, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, this local gem was founded in 2012 by one man with a mission. Founder David Holloman set out a cookie delivery service that would deliver delicious cookies right to his patrons’ doors. The company’s first location was a humble space marked by a cardboard sign that simply read, “cookies.”

Word quickly spread, and soon, Appalachia Cookie Co. was shipping cookies all over the country. Today, they’re in a newer space and continue to serve fresh baked cookies ranging from the traditional to the outrageous.

Their own personal success wasn’t enough for the Appalachia Cookie Co., though. Instead, they are committed to giving back to their local community by helping to combat hunger and food insecurity. When patrons subscribe to their 30 Thirty Project, they’ll be shipped a dozen gourmet cookies each month, and 30 pounds of food will be donated to a local family on their behalf. Staff members are happy to provide information about the program when you stop into the shop.

Upon entering the small store, you’re greeted by the delicious smell of baking cookies. Menus on the wall advertise regular cookie offerings, specials, premium flavors, and more. At the counter, a glass case is filled with an assortment of ready-to-go cookies. However, for those willing to wait a bit longer, we strongly suggest ordering baked-to-order treats. While it requires some patience, you won’t find a fresher cookie, as these are literally put in the oven when you place your order.

To complement these fresh, creative cookies, grab yourself a cold glass of milk, or a hot or iced coffee, relax on one of the shop’s wooden benches, and enjoy the ultimate indulgence.

It can be difficult to choose between the large variety of cookies. Here are a few of our favorites to get you started.

Blueberry White Chocolate Oatmeal Cookie
This is, in many ways, the cookie that put Appalachia Cookie Co. on the map. A classic oatmeal cookie is elevated with sweet white chocolate chips and tart-dried blueberries, creating a satisfying and innovative twist on a beloved classic. This cookie gained so much traction, that Paula Deen once named it among the top 10 cookies in America!

Cookies and Cream
Cookies inside a cookie? That’s exactly the situation with this unique favorite, and yes, it’s just as delicious as you’d imagine. This brown sugar batter is packed full of giant chunks of Oreos and white chocolate chips. Pair it with a glass of milk and prepare to enter cookie nirvana.

Chocolate Chip
This one’s for the purists out there. Yes, Appalachia Cookie Co. offers a selection of unique, can’t-find-anywhere-else cookies, but there’s still something to be said about the O.G. Heaps of chocolate chips combine with a rich, buttery batter to deliver a chocolate chip cookie that is equal parts classic and delicious. Trust us on this one – get it freshly baked.

Cheesecake
This sweet-looking cookie is deceptively complex. Hidden inside a light, airy batter is a decadent cream cheese center. A coating of crispy sugar and graham cracker crumbs balance out the richness of the cream cheese and complete a bold flavor profile that is shockingly similar to a delectable slice of cheesecake.

Whether you’re an adventurous eater or a cookie purist, we believe there’s a flavor for everyone at Appalachia Cookie Co. Be sure to let us know which were your favorites!
