If you’re looking for a beautiful spot to relax and unwind, French Broad River Park is a perfect place. As soon as you arrive, you are greeted by the soothing sounds of the French Broad River, one of the oldest rivers in the world! It’s said that this ancient river is a designated drinking water source for more than one million people! If only it could tell the stories of a time gone by. We fell in love with the water’s elegance, enhanced by the lush North Carolina greenery. I’d say it is one of Mother Nature’s best accomplishments. Whether you are a local looking for a peaceful spot to enjoy nature or a visitor to the area and interested in seeing Asheville’s natural and beautiful landscapes, French Broad River Park is a must-see destination.

Picture Perfect for Picnics and Chatting
When you arrive, you’ll instantly notice an expansive open lawn perfect for picnicking or simply lounging around. This is just one of the many picturesque spots to spend time. We recommend packing a picnic and a blanket and enjoy soaking in the picturesque views of the good old river. The park also features multiple shaded picnic areas with grills, benches, and beautiful gardens that are located throughout this lovely area providing resting spots for a snack or chat.

Walking Trails, Kayaks and Canoes
If you are more adventurous and want to add water activities to your visit, you can rent kayaks or canoes and paddle along the French Broad River. This is the perfect way to spend an afternoon and soak in the breathtaking sights and sounds of the area. You can also hit the well-maintained walking and biking trails that wind along the beautiful riverbank. Yet another way to enjoy the amazing views that surround the area. This is a perfect picture and video-taking moment as the sun shines through the trees and gardens.  Listen to the sound of the water and rustling leaves that create a calming atmosphere like no other. The trails are designed for all ages and fitness levels. It is the perfect destination for families with young children, older adults, and everyone in between. Many areas are wheelchair accessible, too. We opted to rent a kayak for a self-guided float trip through the nearby River Arts District featuring more than 50 working artist studios. We were inspired by their talent, which included woodworking items, ceramics, metal-works, and others. We were lucky to catch a beverage at the Wedge Brewing Company to cool off and rejuvenate for our trip back. This is just one of the many memory-making activities that you can experience on the French Broad River.

Bring Along Your Four-Legged Pup
This welcoming park is a playground for everyone, including pets! One of the best features of this community park is, it is dog-friendly. Your four-legged friends are going to love the designated off-leash zones where they can run and play freely. The park has thought of everything including a special fenced area for dogs under 25 pounds and one for dogs over 25 pounds, waste stations, water fountains, and ample room for them to enjoy making new friends with other pets playing there.
